Xemei, which is the Venetian word for twins, is a lively and noisy restaurant with the slightly unkempt look typical of many Italian trattorias. Located in the centre of Barcelona, it falls somewhere between chaotic and bohemian.

The menu changes daily depending on what’s available in the market, which nearly always includes fish or shellfish as well as a variety of pastas based on classic Venetian recipes. The generous portions are characteristic of this Mediterranean cuisine, which features touches of tradition and the best of home cooking.

Specialities include “baccalà mantecato” a type of salt cod brandade from northern Italy, while polenta often accompanies its meat dishes, not forgetting a wide variety of fresh pastas cooked al dente.
