Located in Bakkum town centre in North Holland, Restaurant Apicius has become a stand-out place to dine thanks to the backing of owners Thorvald and Gaylord de Winter. Chef Thorvald’s unique style of cooking is described by guests as honest and authentic. A simple approach takes the spotlight here over exceedingly complex dishes to ensure that the basic ingredients are of the highest quality. This collaboration between Thorvald and Gaylord has been highly praised by the national and international press. Restaurant Apicius has been awarded two stars in the famous Michelin Guide, whilst the Gault-Millau guide awarded it 17 points and named Gaylord Sommelier of the Year in 2008. The prestigious wine magazine The Wine Spectator was so impressed by the wine list that they gave the restaurant an Award of Excellence. Additionally, the restaurant has also received the Penfolds Culinary Trophy for its wine and food combinations.
