On the corner of Eastern Avenue in Newbury Park is Jalalabad 2 Restaurant with its glittering glass frontage and an airy interior of light wood floors and tables, and brilliant blue upholstery. Named after the romantic Afghan city at the entrance to the Khyber Pass, Jalalabad 2’s menu includes classic Indian dishes like chicken tikka and mushroom pakora, as well as regional favourites like lamb ceylon - a hot curry with coconut, ginger and peppercorns. Milder options include the vegetable dansak. The menu also boasts a number of speciality fish dishes, including the king prawn Chef’s Special. Jalalabad 2 Restaurant won Best Indian Restaurant in the Ilford in the Spice Times Restaurant Award 2011, and the owners have over 25 years of experience in pleasing diners. A plasma screen and sound system are also available for parties of up to 40 people.
