The Fox Inn experience begins as soon as you leave the main road and drive through some of Dorset’s most stunning countryside, including the breathtaking views from Bulbarrow Hill and a short distance from the spectacular Dorset Gap.

Proprietors, Ian and Abi are proud of this famous, unique Inn and a warm welcome awaits you. Once inside The Fox, you can dine in either the Woodhouse Restaurant, traditional in style with its elegant oak panelling and low ceiling, or if you prefer, the light and airy setting of our Garden Restaurant overlooking our tranquil, landscaped garden ~ perfect for lunch. Meals are also served in the Bar, which is warm, welcoming and always a reflection of the rich, rural life found in the heart of Dorset. Well behaved dogs are most welcome in the bar and can keep our chocolate lab, Reggie, company!

Ian and his team of chefs are dedicated to using the finest local produce so abundant in the county of Dorset, fresh fish straight from Portland, quality lamb and beef from neighbouring farms, sausages literally from next door! And an impressive cheeseboard made up entirely from cheeses sourced from within 35 miles of Ansty. Menus are imaginative, seasonal and regular ‘specials” complement the varied a la carte menu. For example, the Smoked Fish and Spring Onion Fishcakes with Tomato and Caper Relish to start would be perfectly followed by the Slow Roast Shoulder of Lamb with Redcurrant and Mint Gravy, the meat tender and cooked to perfection. If room allows, the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce is a sinful must!

Lunch and dinner are served seven days a week and Sunday Lunch boasts our famous Carvery attracting visitors from miles around ~ booking is essential!

With a function room for up to 60 people, Ian and Abi’s experience of over 25 years in hospitality will also ensure that your wedding, family party or Christmas function will be a resounding success.
