Information on Greenwich, London
Famous for the Cutty Sark, Maritime Greenwich was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1997 owing to the sheer number of buildings of historic and architectural interest including many Georgian and Victorian buildings in the town centre, the riverside and Greenwich Park.
The clipper, Cutty Sark was preserved in dry dock until a major fire in May 2007 destroyed the rigging and deck of the ship. Although under restoration it's future remains uncertain.
The Victorian and Georgian architecture that graces the town centre stretches west of the park to the Royal Naval college. There is a covered market, arthouse Cinema and theatre.
The nearby Greenwich Peninsula is home to the O2, formerly the Millenium Dome.
